Rule the Roost

In a moms' group I am a part of, a discussion started about the older kids "ruling the roost" - this seems to be very true in our home! For example, last night I cooked RIBS (WOW - that was a BIGGIE for me!). In the past, Aidan has liked eating ribs, and while they were cooking, Eliot was raving about them (I think he was hungry and they smelled gooooooood). SO Eliot starts eating one and is REALLY enjoying it! Saying it was his favourite food. Then Aidan tries one - heaven forbid there is a DROP of sauce on it...... And he says YUCK, then all of a sudden, Eliot doesn't want to eat anymore.... grrrrrrr. This kind of thing happens ALOT. Luckily once Eliot catches on to something and likes it, it seems Aidan has less of an effect on him - so I often get Eliot to try new things when Aidan is not around (e.g. at school) and Eliot does like to try new things!!!

But I must admit that even though Aidan doesn't like some mainstream things that alot of kids typically like (e.g. ketchup, spaghetti, etc), he does like some weird things - like black olives (this was what I used to bribe him to get his hair cut - he loved them so much he would do anything for them!) and toasted seaweed. Eliot also likes sardines and bread with balsamic vinegar and Udo's oil - Aidan just dips his bread into the Udo's oil.
